Abstract

Electronic nose analysis was applied to detect whether red peppers were irradiated or not. Red peppers were irradiated at 0, 5, 10, 50, and 100 kGy. The technology is based on a sensor array of twelve conducting polymers sensors. The data was analyzed using a multiple discriminant analysis (MDA). A total of 5 samples of red peppers were classified by odor in at least three clusters, but the classification by case placed all of the samples into the correct groups. It was concluded from this study that the technique could be used as an efficient method to detect the irradiation treatment of red peppers.
